John C. Cox, 83, entered into eternal rest on April 7, 2018. He was a native Houstonian and dedicated over 30 years to education, retiring at the highest levels as a superintendant with the Houston Independent School District. John was an astute businessman with a passion for real estate and the stock market. John and his beloved late wife, Carol, enjoyed discovering the country in their motor home, fishing and helping young people meet their full potential. John graduated from Hampton University with a Bachelors degree in Industrial Arts and earned a Masters degree in Education from Prairie View A&M University. He was a member of Sloan Methodist Church and served as a member of its usher board. John was preceded in death by his loving wife of 51 years Carol J. Cox. He is survived by daughter; The Honorable Elaine Jefferson; son-in-law, The Honorable Dwight Jefferson; grandchildren, Grant Jefferson and Max Jefferson; brother, Limuel D. Cox, Jr. and, wife, Darlene Cox; niece, Tonia N. Cox; numerous other loving relatives and friends.
