John Thomas Cooney, passed away peacefully on the 24th of September 2014. John was born on the 20th of January 1927 to Willis and Elaine Cooney of Irvine, Pennsylvania. We rejoice that he is now in the arms of the Lord and his beloved wife Jean.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Jean; and brothers, James W. Cooney and Charles Blanden Cooney. John is survived by his sister, Elaine Spiller and husband Walter Spiller; his son, John Blanden Cooney and wife Camy, their daughter, Sophie Epton and her husband, Jordan; his son, Michael Thomas
Cooney and his wife Debra, and their daughter Olivia; his daughter, Lisa Cooney Box and her children John and Emily Box.
John proudly served in the Army and then attended Gannon University in Pennsylvania. He was married to his wife, Jean, for nearly 51 years and they both were long time members of St. Michael Catholic Church. He enjoyed a long career in the banking industry. He and his wife were supporters of several area charities.
A special heartfelt thanks is extended by the family to his caregivers of Care Innovations and Vantage Hospice for their loving care of our father, John.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from four o'clock in the afternoon until six o'clock in the evening on Thursday, the 2nd of October, in the chapel Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home, 12800 Westheimer Road in Houston where the Recitation of the Holy Rosary is to commence at six o'clock. A funeral mass is to be offered at ten o'clock in the morning on Friday, the 3rd of October at St. Michael Catholic Church, 1801 Sage Road in Houston, where Rev. Bill Oliver is to serve as celebrant. The interment is to follow, via an escorted cortege, at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery in Houston.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family asks that donations be made in John's name to American Cancer Society, 6301 Richmond Ave., Houston, TX, 77056; the American Heart Association,10060 Buffalo Speedway, Houston, TX, 77054; Susan's Rally, 3820 San Jacinto, Houston, TX, 77004; or to the
charity of one's choice.
