Joel Preston Sherrod

He was a wonderful man who embodied all of the attributes of a perfect dad. He was caring, generous, hardworking, compassionate, funny and so much more. He was a loving and devoted husband to his wife, Lynn. It was so difficult to think of all of the words that would describe him as a dad and a husband because he meant so much to all of us. He was a true role model and we all looked up to him.

He worked in the grocery business for over 50 years managing many stores and calling on clients. After Joe retired from Grocers Supply he enjoyed spending time with his wife, Lynn, his daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a member of the Houston Classic Chevy Car Club where he enjoyed showing his 1957 Chevy Bellaire and 1963 Corvette. These cars brought him so much joy and countless awards. Joe traveled to many places during his lifetime. He went on many cruises, he traveled to Alaska, Italy and other wonderful places. Some of his favorite places to visit were Las Vegas and Lake Charles. When Joe was at home he loved watching sports of all kinds. He was an avid Astros and Texans fan and would often say, “Lynn, is there a ballgame on?” He loved listening and dancing to all types of country music.

Paw Paw Joe, as he was known, taught us important lessons were not verbal; they were in his actions. He always worked hard, never complained and was there when you needed him. We will miss him every day for as long as we live.

Joe is preceded in death by his parents John and Leah Sherrod.

He is survived by his wife, Lynn Sherrod and sister Sheri Cunningham. His daughter Deborah O’Krinsky and son-in-law Michael O’Krinsky, daughter Robin Shope and boyfriend Scott Simich and daughter Jennifer Box. Also, survived by his eight grandchildren Austin O’Krinsky and wife Merita, Ryan Rathburn, Jordan O’Krinsky, Brooke Jackson and husband Kyle, Brandon Box and wife Shelby, Blake Box, Morgan Shope and Blair Box, five great-grandchildren Cole Ricciardi, Madison O’Krinsky, Autumn Box, Kase Jackson, Lily Box and Kinsley Jackson who is arriving in November.
