Joe and his wife Beatrice spent the majority of their life in Taft, TX where they were parishioners at Immaculate Conception Church. He was a retired carpenter who also operated and inspected cotton gins in West Texas in the late 1960’s. He was a jack of all trades, working as a handyman; painting, electrical work, plumbing and roofing.
Joe enjoyed fishing, barbecuing, traveling and talking on his CB & ham radios, his handle was 5-0. His hobbies were collecting barbed wire, old coins and antiques, which he later donated to The Blackland Museum in Taft, TX. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
After 50 years of living in Taft, Joe and Beatrice decided to move to the Houston area to be closer to their children and grandchildren.
Joe is survived by his children: Belinda Saldivar (Cyndi), Joy Symington (James), Josie Fonseca (Tino), Jay Saldivar (Patricia), and Jeff Saldivar (Christina); grandchildren: Justin, Joely, Heather, Natasha & Faith, Chase & Elyse, Eddie, Julie & Aracely, Jaymz & Bella, Olivia, Johnny, Joseph & Josie; sister: Sylvestra Ramos; various great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Antonio and Juanita Saldivar; his wife, Beatrice San Pedro Saldivar (d. 2022) and his first wife, Olivia Coy Saldivar (d. 1959); children: Jessie, Johnny and JoAnn Saldivar; grandson: Jason Saldivar; siblings: Ramon Saldivar, Guadalupe Saldivar, Isabel Lopez, Aurora Herrera and Candelaria Gonzales.
Joe was a very generous and friendly man who would go out of his way to help anyone in need. He loved to tell jokes and had a great sense of humor. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Serving as pallbearers are Jay Saldivar, Jeff Saldivar, Tino Fonseca, James Symington, Chase Fonseca and Jaymz Saldivar. Serving as honorary pallbearers are Julie Vasquez, Elyse Fonseca, Bella Saldivar and Joely Symington.
A visitation for Joe will be held Tuesday, January 17, 2023 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM followed by a rosary at 7:00 PM at Brookside Funeral Home, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, TX 77039. A mass of Christian burial will occur Wednesday, January 18, 2023 at 11:00 AM at St. Mary's Magdalene Catholic Church, 527 S. Houston Ave, Humble, TX 77338. A committal service will occur Wednesday, January 18, 2023 at Rosewood Memorial Park Cemetery, 2602 S. Houston Ave., Humble, TX 77396.
