Joe Leroy Reynolds, Sr. beloved and cherished father, husband, brother, grandfather, and friend, was born in the Mississippi Delta on September 29, 1935. Joe was the fifth son of Venice Mabry and Clarence Reynolds. Joe passed away December 20, 2011 in Katy, Texas.
Joe’s love of sports carried him through many successful years of athletic accomplishments. A 1954 graduate of Ruleville High School, Joe was Class President and excelled in baseball, football, basketball, and track. He attended Sunflower Junior College in Moorhead, Mississippi from 1954-1956, where he received a football and track scholarship.
In 1957 and 1958, he received another football scholarship at Delta State College in Cleveland, Mississippi, where he was twice awarded Gulf States Conference Player of the week, and later became an Assistant Coach. He graduated in 1960 with a BSE. In addition to his football accomplishments, he was an exceptional boxer and earned many awards, including the Mid-South Lightweight Golden Gloves Championship.
In 1961 Joe left Mississippi and followed his brother Bobby to Houston where he opened a floor covering sales and service company. His professional career included many years as a marketing representative and as operations manager for a water company. In 1974 Joe and Judy moved from Houston to the suburbs of Katy, Texas where they raised their four sons. Joe continued his love of sports in Little League football and baseball, coaching for many years with his sons and other teams, including a Superbowl championship.
Joe leaves behind his wife Judy, daughter Christy Konnerth, sons Joe Jr., Scott, Michael and Mitchell, brother Jimmy and his wife Frankie, sisters Nina Price, Martha Simmons and Barbara Reynolds, the much-loved mothers of his grandchildren, Elizabeth and Molly, grandchildren Kelly and Kyle Konnerth, Ava and Ronan Reynolds, Allison Ann Reynolds, Ryan and Kailey Molliver, and many treasured cousins, nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends.
Visitation is from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Monday, December 26, 2011 at Heights Funeral Home, 1317 Heights Boulevard, Houston, Texas 77008, phone: 713-862-8844. A graveside service will be held 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 27, 2011 in Woodlawn Garden of Memories, Houston, Texas.
