JoAnn Kothe and Phillip Morris were high school sweethearts from Fairfax, Oklahoma. They enjoyed 53 years of marriage.JoAnn graduated on an academic scholarship from Ponca City Nursing School as a registered nurse. They had two daughters, Jackie and Jody, and raised their family in Beaumont and Houston, Texas. After their children grew up, Phillip worked as a chemical engineer in Saudi Arabia for 10 years, where JoAnn practiced and taught quilting and Christian religion to her neighbors. Living abroad afforded them the priceless opportunity to visit 41 countries. Upon retirement they purchased their dream home, a beautiful Victorian built in 1898, in Palestine, Texas.
JoAnn was a very talented homemaker, gardener, seamstress and a gifted quilter. She had a great eye for putting colors and patterns together, creating wonderful works of art. Regardless of the country they were living in, they were always very active members in the church.
JoAnn is preceded in death by her parents, Easily and Ruby Kothe; her husband, Phillip; and her brother, Donald Kothe.
She leaves behind her two daughters, Jackie (Richard) and Jody (Michele); grandchildren, Jonathan, Angie (Ryan), Sophie (William), and Maddie; great-grandchildren, Reagan, Cameron, and Mia; brother, Butch Kothe (Sue); and many other family and friends.
She taught us to decorate, cook, throw a fabulous themed party, and that family is important. She battled long and hard with Alzheimer's and will be sorely missed by all who knew her. She will be laid to rest in Palestine, Texas beside her loving husband on Saturday, November 25, 2023 at 1 PM. A visitation will be held Friday, November 24, 2023 from 5-7 PM at Heights Funeral Home in Houston, Texas.
