Joan Catherine Howard

Joan Catherine Howard of Clear Lake, cherished wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, passed away Tuesday, December 14, 2021. Joan was born in 1942 in Austin, TX, to Woodrow and Ruby Fugman. She is preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, David E. Howard, Jr., her parents and her brother, Bill. She is survived by her sisters and brothers-in-law Hank and Dianne Niscavits and Ronnie and Alice Beshears, her children Eric, his fiancé Kristin Salinas, Kevin, his wife Shannon, and her grandsons Mason, Caleb and Brandon.

Joan graduated from South Houston High School in 1959 and went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and Master’s in Library Science from University of Houston. She devoted more than 35 years to her career as a teacher and librarian in Deer Park and Pasadena school districts. Joan is a member of St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church in Huffman. She had a passion for helping others and volunteered her time with Pilot International and Houston’s Crisis Hotline. Joan loved reading, butterfly gardening, baking and spending time with family and friends.

Gathering of family and friends will be held Tuesday, December 21, 2021, at 2pm followed by a Memorial Service at 3pm at the Grand Chapel of Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery. Reception to follow.
