Jewell Deane Britt

Jewell Deane Britt passed from this life on October 23, 2022 at the age of 71 at Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Medical Center in The Woodlands, Texas. Though she battled serious medical issues in recent years, she faced these challenges with the same steadfast determination that she used in every facet of her life.

She was born to Towell West, Jr. and Leona Marie West on November 20, 1950 in Houston, TX. Jewell excelled in school and graduated as Valedictorian from C.E. King High School. While working at Southwestern Bell, which became somewhat of a family tradition, Jewell met the love of her life, Virgil. Though she was initially resistant to his charms, his persistent pursuit eventually won her heart. Virgil and Jewell were wed on April 6, 1973 and shared 48 wonderful years together. They had two children: Kristy and Stacey.

While Jewell was recognized for her academic achievements, her family was what she valued most. She found joy and fulfillment in caring for her children and grandchildren. She never missed a birthday or a special occasion. She was a faithful Christian, wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend.

As empty nesters, Jewell and Virgil enjoyed traveling and exploring new places together. Jewell found pleasure in reading, playing games, doing puzzles, and spending time with friends and family.

Jewell was preceded in death by her father, Towell, her mother, Leona, and her husband, Virgil.

Jewell is survived by her daughter Kristy Hubing and husband, Matt; her daughter Stacey Backhus and husband, Jeff; her grandchildren: Alexander and Nicholas Ensey, Brooklyn and Ashlynn Backhus, EJ and Chloe Abbott; her sister, Janice Cantrell and husband, Don; her brother, James West and wife, Arrie; her brother, Kirk West and wife, Maggie; her sister-in-law, Linda Perkins; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

A visitation for Jewell will be held Thursday, October 27, 2022 from 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM at Brookside Funeral Home. A funeral service immediately to follow. The graveside service will occur at 3:30 PM at Brookside Memorial Park.
