Born on May 6, 1944 in Houston, Texas, Jess was part comedian, part salesman, all heart. He was a gentle man with wit and sensitivity, a well intentioned man who lived life on his own terms. He always brought joy and laughter to those around him with a heart so immense, so fragile, and so beautiful.
Jess was often referred to as "Skeeter" by his namesake, "#1 Son" to his mother Mavis, "Bubba" to his sister Monta Jane, and "Dad/Pops/Daddy-o" to his children. He set an example of love and dedication. He was a man of many facets. Behind his wit and humor, there was a caring and protective individual who always put the needs of his family first. He was a devoted father to his children. With a fiery temper and a passion for his beliefs, he led those around him.
He is survived by his sister Monta Jane Akin, his children Michelle, Jess "Jay", Suzanne, and Todd, his grandchildren Taylor, Brody, and Eliza as well as a network of extended family spread across the nation.
As we gather to remember the life of Jess Wilson Akin III, let us honor his memory by embracing the qualities that defined him: his intelligence, his wit, his caring nature, and his unwavering love for his family and friends. May his passion for life and laughter live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Please wish him peace, joy, and acceptance in heaven and the great beyond that awaits all of us. We will be there in the blink of an eye, it's up to us to enjoy the before, as to let them enjoy the after.
We love you Dad, there's never enough time.
