Avis Jeannine Bonjour Long at the age of 84 passed to her heavenly home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday October 5th, 2022. Born Sept. 21, 1938 to Alberta Morisse Bonjour and George Thomas Bonjour in Houston, Tx. She was raised in the northside addition of Lindale where her father, Dr. Bonjour, practiced Chiropractic in their home for over fifty years.
She graduated from Jefferson Davis High School in 1956 and married her high school sweetheart, Clinton Herman Long, on March 1, 1958. Clinton preceded Jeannine in death April 2, 2002. They were blessed with four children: Larry Thomas , Lance Clinton, Lex Bonjour, and Larisa Jeannine. Their children added seven grandchildren to the Family Tree. Larry and wife Lynne (Williams) blessed them with two granddaughters, Candice Marie and Rochelle Elizabeth, Lance & his former wife Pamela (Hanzalik) blessed them with grandson Dylan Mitchell, Lex and wife Shelly (McCarty) blessed them with Reya Dey and Nyla Brooke, Larisa and husband Rick Loera blessed them with Jake Tyler and Luke Garrett. Great Grandchildren are Mercedes, Nathan, Zoey , Zachary, Bentley and Azula. Jeannine is also survived by her sister Elizabeth Georgeine (Bonjour) Foster and husband Thomas McNeese Foster and two nephews Kent Thomas Foster & wife Dana along with their children, Travis & Abby. Kirk Hunter Foster & wife Amy and their children, Reagan & Laurel.
Jeannine grew up attending Reid Memorial Methodist Church & her “future husband’s” church, Lindale Baptist. After moving to the NASA area where Clint worked with IBM, their family attended Seabrook Methodist. In 1977 they moved across Houston settling in the Cypress area where their family’s membership was at the Cypress Bible & Grace Bible Churches. She volunteered at Angel’s Attic at CAM, the Cypress Assistance Ministry from the late ‘90’s to 2011. Jeannine was the “Founding Queen” of the Red Hat Mammas-a Chapter of the Red Hat Society-in 2004.
Jeannine’s lifelong passion & career was in the Field of Education (especially Elementary). She earned her Bachelor of Science in Elem. Educ. from the University of Houston in 1962 teaching at Theodore Roosevelt (HISD), Clear Lake and Ed White Schools (Clear Creek ISD), Hancock & Lamkin schools (Cy-Fair ISD) where she retired in 1999 after 30 years plus 12 more years substituting in Cy-Fair ISD. She was a lifetime member of Texas State Teachers Assoc. (TSTA) and Texas Retired Teachers Assoc. (TRTA). She also was a founding member of the local chapter of TRTA called CYFARE (Cypress – Fairbanks Association of Retired Employees).
Services will be at Brookside Memorial Home & Cemetery at I-59 & Lauder Rd. with visitation Thursday evening, October 13th from 5-9pm and Memorial Service in the Chapel on Friday afternoon, October 14th at 2pm with graveside service to follow. Family and friends are welcome to both.
