Jeanie Parks, age 96, went to be with the Lord on Friday, March 3rd after a long illness. She was born in Edinburgh, Scotland. The daughter of the late Robert and Mary Bishop and sister to the late Margaret Holme and Robert Bishop.
She grew up in Edinburgh, Scotland and in 1945 married American GI, J P Parks. She immigrated to the US in 1946 and she and J P lived in Austin while he attended University of Texas. Upon his graduation they settled in Houston, TX. She held secretarial positions at American General, Waltrip High School and her husbands’ CPA office and raised two children. She was an active member of Garden Oaks Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, and participated in many other church functions and St. Stephen United Methodist Church. She was an avid artist and won many awards for her paintings. She was active in organizations supporting Parkinson Disease.
She is survived by daughter MaryRuth Shanks and her husband Jack Shanks; son J P Parks Jr; grandchildren Heather Shanks and her husband Michael Wilson, and Samuel Shanks and his partner Kelly Cryer; great grandchildren Trevor Wilson, AgathaRuth and Jack E. and Bishop Shanks. She is also survived by her brother Alex Bishop and wife Betty Bishop and sister Dorthey Goodfellow and numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the Season’s/Accent Care Hospice personal for their wonderful and loving care they gave to my mother and me in the last years of her life. Without them and the loving help from my cousin Kaye and husband Gene Pace caring for mother these last 8 years would have been impossible.
A Memorial Service for Jeanie will be held on Thursday, April 13, 2023 at 11:00 AM at St. Stephen's United Methodist Church, 2003 West 43rd St., Houston, TX 77018 and a private Interment at Woodlawn Garden of Memories. Donations can be made to the Parkinson’s or Alzheimer’s Associations.
