Growing up during the Depression with both her older sisters already in the work force, Jean landed a job at an insurance agency where she took special notice of Donald Grant. They eventually wed in September of 1949 and had three children - Gary, John, and Donna.
In August of 1964, the Grant family moved from Montreal to California settling in La Crescenta, a city north of Los Angeles. After 24 years of marriage, Jean and Don divorced. In August of 1974 Jean married Arthur Bammel and together they lived in Southern California until 1989 when they moved to Houston.
They remained in Texas until 2008 and then returned to Southern California. Following Art’s passing in 2015, Jean would once again move to Houston to be near her son, Gary, and his wife, Suzani. In these latter years, her everyday home would be Brookdale Senior Living where she graciously received full-time care from a remarkable group of ladies working for Majestic Staffing. The Grant family is especially grateful for all the assistance bestowed upon Jean by her primary caregiver, Leslie Holiday, and the diligent staff at both Brookdale Senior Living and Majestic Staffing.
Jean passed away peacefully on Thursday, the 29th of December 2022, with Gary and Suzani at her side. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Irma and Olive, and is survived by her brother Thomas, her three children, three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all.
By God’s grace, Jean lived a full life believing in the power of kindness and positive action to alleviate the suffering of the less fortunate. Her surviving family willfully strives to carry forward her legacy and her bright shining spirit in support of the humanitarian work that is being done through the Asmlash-Grant Foundation.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family kindly requests that donations be made in her honor to the Asmlash-Grant Foundation, a non-profit charitable organization established by Suzani and Gary in 2014. Today the Asmlash-Grant Foundation is providing lifesaving aid to the tens of thousands of vulnerable refugees in Sudan who escaped the ongoing brutal war in Tigray, Ethiopia. Donations can be made on the Foundation’s website at http://www.asmlash-grant.org/ or by check to the Asmlash-Grant Foundation, 2727 Kirby Drive #21E, Houston, TX. 77098.
