Jane K. McMillan was born October 3, 1933 in Arnaudville, Louisiana to Lawrence and Angelle Kidder Castille. She was baptized October 14, 1933 at St. Francis Regis Church in Arnaudville, Louisiana. First Communion was May 18, 1944 at The Sacred Heart Church in Grand Coteau, Louisiana. She graduated from Sunset High School on June 5, 1952. Jane was the winner of title Miss Sunset 1953. She worked at a local newspaper until meeting and marrying husband Hugh McMillan after his service in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict. They married on November 6, 1954. Hugh’s job relocation brought them to Huffman in July, 1965.
Jane was one of the founding families of St. Phillip the Apostle Catholic Church. During the early years of the parish, she was active in the Women’s Guild; Jane and Hugh volunteered and were sole custodians of the parish lawns for years. For a time, Jane was an active volunteer at Huffman ISD working mostly in the library and was active in the Band Booster Club from 1968 to 1973. Jane was very independent and didn’t like asking for favors mostly because she didn’t want to trouble anyone.
Jane passed quietly in her sleep the early morning hours of January 3, 2019 from natural causes. Jane lived alone, cared for herself and remained active until her death. Her great joy was caring for her own yard and preferred to be outside.
Jane was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Angelle Castille of Sunset, LA., her husband Hugh McMillan, her brother and sister-in-law Charles and Mae Castille of Crestview, FL., and her step-mother Olga Peck Castille of Sunset, LA.
She is survived by her daughter Patti Downs of Spring, TX., her son Michael McMillan of Bryan, TX., her grandson Adam Downs of Spring, TX., and her granddaughter Megan McMillan of Depoe Bay, OR.
A rosary service for Jane will be held Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at St. Philip the Apostle Church, 2308 3rd Street, Huffman, TX. 77336. A committal service and burial will follow the mass immediately at Brookside Memorial Park, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, TX. 77039.
