Jan Hall Peine, born in Houston on April 5, 1952, departed from her earthly home on January 31, 2014. Jan was born to the late Edwin H. Hall and Jane T. Hall, who survives her. Her cherished husband of 32 years, Edward M. Peine, was by her side throughout her career and her nine-year journey with carcinoid, a neuroendocrine tumor cancer (NET). Jan is also survived by her brothers and their wives: Michael and Donna Hall of Katy and Mark and Susan Hall of College Station, and by her nieces and nephews and their children.
Jan attended Milby High School where she was very involved with student activities, including student government and athletics. She graduated from Milby with highest honors in 1970. Jan was the pioneer who kick-started class reunions keeping her class and friends together. Affectionately referred to as the Milby CEO, Jan was the driving force, heartbeat and diligent leader of this loyal group she loved so much.
Jan attended the University of Texas at Austin and earned a BBA in accounting graduating with highest honors.
Jan's professional years as a CPA were with Ernst and Ernst, 3D/International and the Petro Source Group. Her tenure with Petro Source spanned over 24 years. She loved the challenge and excitement of her work. Her intelligence, meticulous nature and enthusiasm were evident in all she did and the company benefited enormously from her diligent stewardship. Jan loved the people that she worked with. She was that rare manager who was interested, encouraging and unstinting in her efforts to assist and mentor her employees. As a member of senior management, she insured that, in any business decision, the impact on the people involved was carefully considered. She loved to laugh, and she laughed often. Her smile could light the room. A people person at heart, her friendliness was evident and her door was always open.
In 2005, the discovery of the cancer that ultimately claimed her earthly life changed her direction of focus. Seeking and developing a relationship with God became her comfort, joy and peace. She used those gifts of faith in outreach to others. A natural outreach was to other NET patients, helping them one-on-one or in group discussions. Many others also felt her kind touch.
The family thanks the professional staff at M.D. Anderson for the care and compassion shown to Jan and Ed on their journey with cancer.
Jan truly loved and embraced her Savior, Jesus. Jan was a member of Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church. She loved her Bible Studies and those in her study groups. Jan volunteered serving as an usher. Jan found great comfort talking and praying with the ministers and the members of MDPC, especially in her final days.
Jan continues in her new life, abiding in His peace and in His presence.
A Celebration of Jan's Life will be held on Saturday, February 15, at 3 pm at Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church, 11612 Memorial Drive, (at Blalock) Houston, TX 77024. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her honor to MDPC at the above address or www.mdpc.org or to the Caring for Carcinoid Foundation, 198 Tremont Street, Box 456, Boston, MA 02116 www.caringforcarcinoid.org/donations.
