James Storey Dabney

James Storey Dabney was born in Houston, Texas the 15th of January 1967 to Robert Lewis Dabney, Jr. and Susan Schmutte Dabney and passed away the 17th of February 2015 in Houston, Texas at the age of 48.

James attended St. Anne Catholic School, Virginia Episcopal School in Lynchburg, Virginia, and graduated from Arlington Heights in Fort Worth, Texas.

After briefly attending Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas, James enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1989 attending boot camp in San Diego, California and then spent a year of study at Naval Air Station in Millington, Tennessee. He was an Aviation Electronics Technician, 3rd Class, Petty Officer. James was assigned to Attack Squadron 35, known as The Black Panthers, an A-6 Intruder Squadron, which deployed for Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm on the aircraft carrier USS Saratoga (CV-60). He served until 1993 receiving the Navy Sea Services Ribbon, the Navy Good Conduct Ribbon and the Navy Achievement Medal.

Upon his honorable discharge from the Navy, James worked in the Information Technology field for several companies in the Austin, Texas area. He was a member of the "No Nombre" Camp of the Tejas Vaqueros. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, and enjoyed numerous weekends at the family ranch (La Quebrada) in Dimmit County. He enjoyed boating and kayaking on Lake Travis. He was a kind and loving man, brother and father. He will be sorely missed by his family and many friends.

James was preceded in death by his mother, Susan Schmutte Gillespie; a brother, Robert Lewis Dabney III. Survivors include his son, James Storey Dabney, Jr.; his daughter, Megan Dabney; father and step-mother, Robert Lewis Dabney, Jr. and Judith Anderson Dabney; brother, John Nelson Dabney; step-brothers, Dick Hoskins Gregg, III and his children, Parker P. Gregg and William A. Gregg, and Christopher Anderson Gregg and his children, Casey L. Gregg and Emma K. Gregg and his wife, Mitzi Gregg; and numerous cousins.

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation to be held Thursday, the 26th of February from half past five o'clock in the afternoon until half past seven o'clock in the evening at Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive, in Houston. The funeral service will be conducted at three o'clock in the afternoon on Friday, the 27th of February at St. Martin's Episcopal Church, 717 Sage Road.

In lieu of the customary remembrances, and for those desiring, the family requests that memorial contributions in memory of James be directed to Texas Children's Hospital or The Brookwood Community of Houston.
