Jim graduated from Humble High School and worked as a craftsman with various shops throughout Houston and most recently, with Macy’s Corporation until his retirement.
He had a passion for spending time with his two daughters. Jim loved going to Smiley, Texas with his two dogs and family where he built bonfires taller than himself. He enjoyed watching sunsets and drinking beer on his pontoon boat. Jim loved cheering on the Houston Astros-or honestly any sport (bracketing the Final Four) and auto-racing. He was easily amused by playing tricks on his loved ones, telling jokes, and sharing tall tales (which Jim wouldn’t think were actual tall tales).
Throughout Jim’s life, he enjoyed playing many sports such as basketball, surfing, competitive water skiing, snow skiing, and go-kart racing. He loved going country dancing at his favorite dance halls. He liked to blast music, which he referred to as “good” music, like Yanni, Steve Wariner, Ronnie Milsap, Chris Stapleton, and just any good ol’ country songs out on the boat. He was also gifted as a musician and played not only in the school band but also the drums with several neighborhood friends in their “garage bands”.
He is survived by daughters, Sarah Smith and Kristen Smith; sisters, Susan Smith, Mary Howell and husband Sam; the entire Davis family; His “Inner Circle”; much loved nieces, nephews, and all of their children; and his very close circle of friends since he has known since high school and earlier, and most recent fur-pup Nola.
He is joined in Heaven by parents Dean and Margrett Smith, brother Tommy Smith, father-in-law Jimmy Davis, his fur-daughter Layla, and many more loved ones.
The family will receive friends for a visitation on Sunday, June 12, 2022 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM, a evening service is scheduled to begin at 6:30 PM at Brookside Funeral Home, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, TX 77039.
