James Leroy Renner, 95, passed away in Memorial Hermann The Woodlands on Tuesday, February 14, 2023, after a brief illness. He was born to Paul St. Elmo Renner and Emma Vera Burris Renner in the Cottage Grove area of Houston, Texas, on September 27, 1927. His siblings were David Maurice Renner (Winnie Moorman; Rosilyn Thomas), Paul Emmett Renner (Joyce Husemann), and Shirley Ruth Renner Goad (Stanley Goad).
He was married to Helen Mollie Koinm Renner for 67 years, 6 months, and 9 days.
Over the years, James was known by many nicknames: Jimmy, Jambo, Red, Daddy, Grandpa, Papa, Papa-Doodles, and Pa. Jimmy was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church where he was a longtime participant in United Methodist Men, and a Charter Member of Faith United Methodist Church (founded in 1970). He was a proud United States Marine, serving during World War II and the Korean War, a member of the American Legion, and the Sheet Metal Workers Union. Jimmy worked for Missouri Pacific and Union Pacific Railroads for nearly 40 years, during which he developed a habit of wearing overalls. He had a passion for his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, his family, the Houston Astros, telling stories, playing softball, singing, gardening, and cooking.
He was predeceased by his parents Paul and Emma Renner; his siblings David (Corky) Renner, Paul (Plute) Renner, and Shirley Goad; his brother-in-law Stanley Goad; his sisters-in-law Winnie Renner, and Joyce Renner; and his son-in-law Ted Hammett.
Jimmy is survived by his wife Helen of Spring, Texas; his children Stephen (Steve) Edward Renner of Spring, Texas, Rebecca (Becky) Shirleen Renner Hammett (Ted) of Conway, Arkansas, and Mollie Kay Renner Husman (David) of Omaha, Nebraska; his grandchildren Brittney Ellen Hammett Schrick (Zachary) of Conway, Arkansas, Wesley Stephen Renner (Nicole Mazzola) of Beaumont, Texas, Andrew (Andy) David Husman of Omaha, Nebraska, Aaron Michael Renner (Chantal Foyil) of Nederland, Texas, Brett Peter Hammett of Vancouver, Washington, Travis Renner Husman (Sarah-Wonder Agbehia) of Omaha, Nebraska, Daniel Scott Renner of Austin, Texas, and Hannah Mollie Husman of Los Angeles, California; his great-grandchildren Abigail (Abbey) Kathryn Schick, Lily Grace Schrick, and Sadie Rebecca Schrick of Conway, Arkansas, Amy Beth Mazzola and Sarah Avery Renner of Beaumont, Texas, and Jasper James Renner, Jackson Curtis Renner, and Jensen Michael Renner of Nederland, Texas; his sister-in-law Roz Renner of Houston, Texas; his many very special nephews and nieces and their families; his cousins and their families; and a host of friends.
