James Douglas “Doug” McCullough, Jr. of Houston, Texas passed away February 28, 2012 in a Houston hospital. He was born November 28, 1938 in Long Beach, California. He earned his B.S. from UCLA, M.S. from San Diego State College and PhD in Organic Chemistry from the University of Illinois. Honors and awards he earned included Phi Lambda Upsilon Honorary Chemical Society and American Men and Women of Science among numerous other awards and achievements in chemistry and his field. He was a research chemist for Shell Development, Union Carbide and Dow Chemical and was best known for U. S. and foreign patents in the field of polymer science. James’ hobbies were fly fishing and investing.
James was preceded in death by his parents, James Douglas McCullough, Sr. and Effie Glasse McCullough and his two sisters, Elaine Mershon and Myra McCullough. Survivors include his loving wife, Shirley Ann Kalchoff McCullough; daughter, Elizabeth McCullough, several other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, March 3, 2012 at the Memorial Drive United Methodist Church, 12955 Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas 77079. Rev. Jim McPhail will officiate. Interment will be held at a later date at Sunset Hill Cemetery in Glen Carbon, Illinois.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made by memorial contributions to Habitat for Humanity, Houston SPCA, or American Heart Assoc.
