James (Jim) was a loving husband, father, brother, papa and friend passed away on Tuesday, October 12, 2021 at the age of 77. He will be remembered by his wife Evelyn and his daughter Lisa and son in law Jeremiah Brown.
He is also survived by his mother Laverne Berg, sister Melinda and husband Wade Privratsky, his grandchildren Chase and wife Mery Fleming, Clarissa and Chloe Brown, along with many adored cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends.
After performing his duty in a classified position in US Airforce, Jim met his wife, Evelyn, whom he was married to for 54 years. Jim was a dedicated family man an amazing father and papa! He worked hard for his family with over 40 years in the construction industry, beginning as a carpenter and retiring as an Assistant Chief of the City of Houston Occupancy Inspections Group. In addition to be a great provider he was a caretaker of many others as a foster parent, church volunteer, mentor and friend. He was a faithful member of Sterling Wood Church in Channelview, TX.
Jim enjoyed spending time with his family. He also enjoyed playing poker, fishing, and golfing. His wife and close friends went on a number of cruises and lived life to the fullest. Jim loved to dance and listen to oldies, especially Elvis! This tradition will carry on with his daughter and her kids. While fireworks were not his favorite pass-time he didn’t miss out on celebrating the New Year with his grandkids. At work many will remember “the reverend” as hard worker always reminding everyone to “Tighten Up”.
We will remember and honor Jim and his dedication to those that he loved. Jim is preceded in death by his father Lee Martin, step father, Conrad Berg, sister Linda Baker and brother Michael Martin.
His life will be celebrated with friends and family on Thursday, October 28, 2021 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at American Heritage Funeral Home, 10710 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77038.
