James Michael (“Mike”) Grayson peacefully passed away Wednesday May 19th at home, in Katy, surrounded by his loving family. Mike was born June 2nd 1947 in Houston, Texas to James Ellsworth “Jim” Grayson and Willie Pauline “Tedd” (Craddock) Grayson.
Mike grew up in North Houston with his parents, two sisters, and many family members and friends. He graduated from Sam Houston High School in 1965. He married fellow Sam Houston High School alumni of 1966, Linda Brown-Grayson in August of 1968. They moved to North Carolina for a couple of years while Mike served in the USMC at Camp LeJeune and then later San Diego, CA. He was an accomplished sharpshooter while in the Marine Corp. They moved back to Texas with a new baby in tow. Four years later, they had their second child. They moved to Katy, Texas four years later, in 1978, and have never moved out of the area. Mike graduated from the University of Houston and became an Accountant. Mike was a great ‘family man’ and was always there for his family and friends. He made every moment memorable. He was always full of life and cherished his moments with loved ones. The family vacationed and visited with Mike and Linda’s dear friends from school, the Coates and Tidwell’s for several years and he cherished those times together. He became a grandfather in 2010 to Max, Jamie and Adam El Hafi’s son. He loved his family beyond measure. Mike always loved and took care of us and would fight for our happiness. Mike always brought humor and compassion to every moment he could. Once his grandson was born, he spent all the time he could creating lasting memories. They loved to go fishing and played for hours on end. Mike absolutely loved watching his westerns on tv, as well as M*A*S*H and Andy Griffith. He also loved listening to music such as Sons of the Pioneers, John Denver, and Jim Reeves. In later years, he was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s. He fought this disease as best a person could for approximately 10 years. Sadly, his body grew tired and after a day surrounded by family, he passed away on May 19, 2021.
He is survived by his eldest daughter Jamie Grayson and grandson Max El Hafi, and his youngest daughter Karen Grayson-Kostor and her husband David Kostor. He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Linda Brown-Grayson; parents James Ellsworth “Jim” Grayson & Willie Pauline “Tedd” (Craddock) Grayson (formerly of Bogata, Texas, then Houston, Texas); and father/mother in-law Billy Ray Brown and Norene (Martin) Brown (formerly of Sealy, Texas). He loved and was loved by many friends and family. We will miss him dearly, but never forget him.
