Jim was born February 9, 1940 in Tulsa, OK to his parents Bart and Lahoma Carlton. He married Virginia Balistrella in 1960 who together had three children; Angela, Jimbo, and Julie.
He graduated from Louisiana State University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1964. Jim’s career in the oil and gas industry took the family from Louisiana to Ohio, California, England and finally to Texas where he specialized in rig maintenance services. Throughout his career, Jim had the opportunity to work all over the world including South America, Nigeria, Abu Dhabi, and Russia.
When he was not traveling for work, Jim enjoyed spending time with his family - camping, coaching his children’s sports, scouting and family vacations. Jim and Virginia loved to entertain and participated in supper-clubs for over 40 years. Jim also had interests in Star Trek, water skiing, working on cars and was also an avid private pilot - flying in the US and in England.
Jim will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 60 years, Virginia; children, Angela Moles (Peter) and Julie Carlton (Mary); sibling, La Celia Henderson; nieces, Katy Henderson and Sally Henderson Walding (Michael); great niece and nephew, Harper Kate Walding and Brady Walding; step-grandchildren Chris Moles and Michael Moles. Jim was predeceased by his parents, Bart and Lahoma; son, James B. Carlton Jr.

A private family service will take place later this year. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer's Association, Act.alz.org or American Heart Association, www2.heart.org.
