JACK RUTHERFORD BRENNAN, age 79, passed away on November 26, 2015. The youngest child of Mabel and T.C. “Buddy” Brennan, he was born in Houston, Texas on September 12, 1936. Jack graduated from Lamar High School, and then attended the University of Oklahoma and the University of Houston, before obtaining his undergraduate degree from Southern Methodist University.
Jack held many jobs in his early career, and spoke fondly of his days working the Katy Gas Plant, and with his brother-in-law’s company, Alamo Barge Lines. Jack hit his professional stride working with his first wife, Lynn Walling at their family’s boutique clothing store, Walling’s in Houston, which later became Pappagallo. The shop was a huge success; subsequently Jack and Lynn moved to Dallas to open another store, Jack Brennan’s Pappagallo in Highland Park Village. Jack presided over the shop for over 15 years and was a fixture in Highland Park Village during that time.
Following the closing of Jack Brennan’s Pappagallo, Jack with his second wife, Camille Bentley, founded Brennan Realtors. After many successful years in Dallas, eventually Jack made it back to the Houston area where he married the love of his life, Suzy Nishizaki and continued Brennan Realtors in the Galveston Bay area.
Jack was a true character, never to be matched. He was all about good heartedness and humor. Family came first to Jack; he was an amazing father, grandfather, husband, brother and uncle. His adventures, stories and jokes would fill volumes, and his legend will live on, as the tales will be retold by all of those lucky enough to have known him. Jack is survived by his wife, Suzy, his daughter, Blake Brennan Collier, his daughter, Blanche Brennan Gill and her husband, Kin, his stepson Aaron Nishizaki, his stepson, Jason Nishizaki and his wife, Brittany, his grandsons, Jack Collier, Jr., Ford Collier and Kinloch Gill and his granddaughter, Claire Gill. He is preceded in death by his mother and father; his brother, Buddy Brennan and his sister, Molly Ann Smith; and his son-in-law, Jack Collier, Sr.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held Tuesday, December 1, 2015 at 11:00 at St. Luke’s Methodist Church, 3471 Westheimer Road. Immediately following the service, all are invited to greet the family during a reception in the Hines Baker Room.
In lieu of customary remembrances, contributions in memorandum may be directed to the charity of one’s choice.
