Born Irene Macias on September 29, 1955, she grew up near the heart of downtown Houston. She enjoyed traveling, camping, spending time at the beach, and being with her friends and family. She took great pride in a clean house and giving the perfect gift. Diagnosed with cancer in 2017, she fought gracefully and tirelessly until her final day. She is preceded in death by her parents, Jesse and Yolanda Macias, and her sister, Yola Macias. She is survived by her daughters, Jessica Vasquez Walker and Rachelle Vasquez; granddaughters Avery Walker and Grace Walker, who brought her such joy and happiness; nephew Andrew Heiney and niece Neomi Macias; her siblings Mike Macias, Roland Macias, and Hector Macias; and her dearest friends. Irene will be missed deeply by all who were lucky enough to have known her.
A visitation for Irene will be held Monday, November 14, 2022 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Heights Funeral Home, 1317 Heights Blvd, Houston, Texas 77008. The funeral service is scheduled for Tuesday, November 15, 2022 at 10:00 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1505 Kane St., Houston, Texas 77007. Committal service will follow at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery, 6900 Lawndale Ave., Houston, Texas 77023.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be given to MD Anderson Cancer Center or the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation.
