Ida was the former wife of the late Willie Bauer; devoted and cherished widow of the late Isadore “Izzy” Robinson; adored, generous and loving mother of Elyse and Mayor Bob Lanier, Cantor Tyrone and Ellen Bauer, and Seymour and Mary Bauer; and grandmother of Courtney Lanier Sarofim and Christopher Sarofim, Kevin and Sara Robins, Michael and Patricia Bauer, Jonathan and Sofie Bauer, Lucretia Bauer, Mark Bauer, Jocelyn Bauer, Paul Bauer, Jennifer Bauer and Carissa Bauer. She had 16 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild, with only four residing in Houston: Eva Elyse Robins, Rhett Ezekiel Robins, Louisa Lanier Sarofim and Fayez Shalaby Sarofim II. Adored sister of the late Eddie and Frances Perel, Bessie Kuper and the late Meyer Kuper. Beloved aunt and great aunt to many. Ida enjoyed an especially warm and loving relationship with her great niece, Sherry Fox, as well as her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Simone and Jake Bauer of Waco, Texas.
Ida loved selling jewelry at Steve Chazanow in the Shamrock Hotel and later at David Webb, alongside her daughter, Elyse, in the Galleria. During their wonderful years together, Ida and Izzy traveled the world, often taking Elyse with them before she married Mayor Bob. Ida and Izzy loved to be with her sister, Bessie and brother-in-law Meyer, as well as dear friends, Ruby Lee and Eddie Rosenzweig and Sarah and Johnny Stein.
Over the years, her time playing maj jong and poker with friends and family were some of her favorites times and some of her most lasting memories. People who knew Ida always remarked that her dimples truly conveyed her personality, generating warmth in others that matched the sweetness in her heart.
She so much wanted to be part of Mayor Bob and Elyse’s administration. She would report potholes to the public works department, later following up to be certain they had been repaired. She was given a Proclamation for City Hall Pothole Reporter and proudly hung the proclamation by her front door.
She was a woman of great strength who always held her head high. Throughout the years, Ida had a series of ups and downs, none of which ever changed her outlook on life – she was a consistently positive, optimistic, happy person. She loved and doted on her children and family. She especially loved to hear her son Tyrone sing.
The family would like to thank Dr. James T. Willerson for his love, compassion, dedication, and care to our wonderful mother. The family also desires to thank her loyal caregivers: Frankie Mitchell, Betty McClinton, Donna Pershall and Sheila Thomas.
A graveside service and interment is to be conducted at ten o’clock in the morning on Sunday, the 22nd of January, at Beth Yeshurun Cemetery at Post Oak, 1037 North Post Oak Road in Houston, where her son, Cantor Tyrone Bauer, is to officiate.
