Herminia “Minnie” Sanchez Rivera passed away peacefully on October 17, 2020 in her home in Oak Forest, Houston, TX. Herminia was born on October 1, 1932 in Hondo, Texas, the eldest of ten children of Marcela Guerra. She married the love of her life, Raynaldo Barron Rivera, on April 1, 1950, in Houston, Texas, and they were happily married until his death in 1986. Together, Herminia and Raynaldo had three sons, Robert, Raynaldo, and Roland, who survive her and reside in Houston, Texas. She is also survived by her sister, Ernestina Burgess. More than anything, Herminia enjoyed spending quality time with her family, whether it was dancing and bowling with her husband and children or taking her boys to see wrestling matches in downtown Houston. Herminia was known for her sarcastic humor and wit, which made her a favorite of her customers and friends at Chick-fil-A in Northwest Mall, where she served as a cashier and greeter for many years. She was a loving grandmother to Anthony, Javier, Jaime, Ricardo Joel, Ryan, and Rachel Rivera, and a great-grandmother to Aleisa and Nerea. Herminia was a devoted parishioner at St. James Lutheran Church in Oak Forest for ten years, where she was an active volunteer in youth activities and fundraising events. She will be dearly missed by her family, friends, and loved ones, who will cherish their memories of her.
In lieu of flowers, kindly send donations to St. James Lutheran Church at 1602 W 43rd St. Houston, TX 77018 or online at www.stjames.ch/donate.
