Hal was born in Houston on the 7th of October 1943, to Harold Hecht and Pauline Meyer Hecht. He graduated from Bellaire High School and attended Colorado College. For two years he served as a specialist in the 62nd Engineer Company of the U.S. Army in Italy. He began his career in the then-new field of data processing at Lockheed Martin in Houston and later moved into educational data processing at the Region IV Education Service Center. He spent the last 19 years of his career as Director of Data Processing for the Alief Independent School District, retiring in 1991. The center of Hal’s life was his family, and his three daughters were the source of his greatest pride. He will be remembered for his kindness, his integrity, his keen sense of humor, and his love of a good poker game.
Hal is survived by his wife of 31 years, Mary Seale Hecht; daughters, Carrie Curry and husband Stephen, Jessica Ramsey and husband Tommy, Claire Hecht; granddaughter, Kyla Curry; sisters, Esther Cohn and husband Roger of Nashville, Tennessee and Gina Hecht and husband Brian Herskowitz of Los Angeles, California; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from five o’clock in the afternoon until seven o’clock in the evening on Friday, the 6th of August at Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.
The memorial service is to be conducted at eleven o’clock in the morning on Saturday, the 7th of August 2010, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons.
In lieu of customary remembrances, contributions in Hal’s memory may be directed to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, “Hal’s Angels” PurpleStride team (www.pancan.kintera.org/purplestrideaustin2010/halsangels), Bayou City Musicals, or to the charity of one’s choice.
