I was sad to hear of Greg's passing, but the news brought some pleasant memories from school in Cranston - Greg was always the calm one with a smile and a laugh.  That he went on to work with kids and coach tennis is no surprise.  He was also was a member of the computer club before anyone even had a personal computer.  

I hope that his family can find some peace, knowing he lives on in the memories of others who crossed paths with him.

There are just too many memories for me to share. We talked almost every day, and he knew me better than anyone else. Greg stood beside me even when I was a huge screw up, never once telling me to get my act together. He loved me with all my flaws and believed in me, which was just what I needed to turn it all around. Our shared experiences and obstacles made us an unbeatable team. I can't believe we won't have our conversations, book clubs, our analyses, our dream of opening an independent bookstore...

Every time I have a conversation in Spanish with someone, I will think of  Greg. My first day of 7th grade when we got in the house off the bus, I told him excitedly that I was in the top division just like him and had all his old teachers, including Señora Galleshaw! I was so thrilled to be taking Spanish. His response was, "solamente podemos hablar en español." (We can only speak in Spanish). I had no clue what he was saying since it was my first day and said, "Umm... Hola?" Greg followed through in speaking lots of Spanish with me at home which put me at the top of my class and is a reason why I can speak it to this day. That's just one of many things Greg gave me that  I carry with me. Love, Erinn Zockso (Erinn xoxo) as Greg affectionately called me since that's how I signed all my correspondence to him.

I knew Greg many years ago from our church. I coached the church basketball team that Greg was on with all of his buddies. They had a very good team, I was only three years older and also played all the time and was asked if I wanted to put a team together to play the inmates at the Rhode Island training school. So me, Greg, Jeff, Frankie, Ross and a few others...Played the inmates a few times. What an experience that was locked in a gym with security to play a TOUGH team with a room full of inmates our age handcuffed and shackled together watching and cheering... Last year I redid the trophy cabinet at our church and I sent Greg and his friends pictures that were in there of them from those years so that was the last time I talked to Greg. We talked about the training school games and how much fun they were. I still think of him and all his friends as 18-year-old kids. I don’t think I ever saw Greg one time in my life without a smile on his face. What a great human and what a terrible loss to the world. My condolences to Greg‘s family and friends. Steve

One time at UT, Greg and I decided to play a game of one on one basketball. I had no chance against the wiley veteran but after a few years of developing my skills, I wanted to see where my game stood. I remember he was beating me pretty easily, almost without even breaking a sweat. So I decided to get aggressive with my defense, and I reached in to try to steal the ball. Right as he spun towards me, our heads collided. His temple was no match for my hard head, and he collapsed to the ground. It was a scary moment! I took him to the UT Health Center where we found out he had a concussion. They told me he needed to be monitored while he slept just in case. He had temporary amnesia and couldn't remember what happened nor what month it was! I forced him to spend the night with me and some friends so we could monitor him overnight. Luckily, his memory recovered, and he was as brilliant as he was before. This was just one of our bonding moments at UT.

I know Greg from playing a lot of basketball with him at UT Austin. I remember him as a very good basketball player but more importantly as a very nice person. We have not kept in touch after college but am touched by what he's done after college and how many people cared about him.

Because of our close proximity in age, Greg was more like a brother to me than a nephew, especially in my younger years.  I will always remember he and Erinn kicking my butt in the card game concentration when I was around 10 years old and they were 5 and 3.  He was a great person and will be sorely missed.  May you rest in peace Greg.

Hello Greg,

I  remember seeing you and Danny at the Downtown Club where I was a Pilates Trainer.  We used to laugh about getting old, working out, and playing tennis,  although we never got a chance too. If I did play, you would have easily won!!

I will miss you my friend.  You always had a kind word to say and a smile like the sun, bright and beautiful.

Greg Dwyer was an amazing friend, teacher and Coach to my son and many others.  He brought back life to the KHS tennis team and taught the young men and women to work hard on and off the court.  He pushed them to do this with integrity and fostered an environment of working together as a team.  Coach Dwyer will be missed by our KHS tennis family and in our family.  We enjoyed getting to know him over the years. We are thankful for the impact that he made in Jacob's life pushing him to have confidence and believe in himself.  Thank you Coach. We miss you and love you.

Coach Dywer had such an impact on the children and our son at KHS.  With his kindness and positivity he left a mark on each and everyone of the kids.  

Uncle Greg was my saving grace in high school when I was struggling in precalculus. I used to email him what felt to me like impossible math problems. He would reply, "oh, that's not too bad" and explain it to me, step-by-step. I always admired how smart he was, and was eager to share with him when I did nerdy things like memorizing 300 digits of pi in the 6th grade. I also admired what a great teacher he was, and I'm sure his many students and athletes in Houston would say the same. Uncle Greg, you brought so much talent, compassion, and wisdom to this world. We will all miss you so much. 

Coach Dwyer was one of the most accepting people I’ve met in my years of school. From the week I first met him, he made an effort to remember my name, even if I often had trouble remembering his. Everyday I saw him at practice, and he was always in a great mood, regardless of what troubles he was facing. I might not be the best at tennis, but Coach never held that against me. He understood me, while still trying his best to get me to improve. There was even times that I only went to after school practice, just to make him proud. Coach Dwyer was a great man, who only spread kindness and positivity to everyone he knew. I hope that his influence lives on, as he is an excellent example of how a man should live his life.
