A visitation for Gloria will be held Saturday, July 31, 2021 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at New Hope Baptist Church, 5202 Chapman Street, Houston, TX 77009. A committal service will occur Saturday, July 31, 2021 from 2:00 PM to 2:30 PM at Paradise Cemetery North, 10401 West Montgomery, Houston, TX 77088. A funeral service will occur Saturday, July 31, 2021 from 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM, 5202 Chapman Street, Houston, TX 77009.
Gloria Jean Cox was born October 22, 1942, in Galveston, Texas, to Joseph Alfred Lewis Sparks and Della Irene Golden. Gloria moved from Galveston to Houston, Texas, at an early age.
On February 26, 1957, Gloria Jean Sparks married the love of her life, James Allen Cox. To this union, eight children were born. She was the youngest child of two children. She accepted at an early age. She rededicated her life to Christ in 1980 under the leadership of Reverend S. V. Adolph Sr, where she remained until his death. She was presently under the leadership of Reverend Calton O, Sylvester Sr, until her death. Sis Cox served as Deaconess, Pastor’ Aide, and President over Mission Two (II). Sis first was God, and her second was her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
She is preceded in death by her husband of fifty-two years “James A. Cox,” her parents Joseph Alfred Lewis Sparks and Della Irene Harris, sibling Norvell Smith, and three children Michelle Elouise Cox, Darrell Wayne Cox, Kevin Andre Cox, and one daughter in law Elouise Sparks and one son in law Walter L. Montgomery.
Gloria leaves to cherish in her memory; two sons Rober E, Sparks, Darrell B. Cox, and four daughters, Sebrnia R. Graham, Cynthia M. Montgomery, Pamela D. Cox, and LaTanya R. McGowan (Parick), and one beloved sister in law Diane R. Russell (Cox). She also leaves eleven grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors, and friends.
