George Bernard Roush

George B. "Bernie" Roush, age 86, passed away in his home in Conroe, TX on Friday, February 11, 2022. George was born March 23, 1935 in Marion, Ohio, to George Hugh Roush and Iscah Roush (née Foos) as the youngest child with two sisters, Dorothy and Joanne.

He left this world as he lived his life, surrounded by love and ready for his next adventure. Bernie was a father, grandfather, husband, partner, Air Force veteran, traveler, teacher, tennis player, musician, master woodworking craftsman, and NASA engineer. Bernie served 35 years at NASA and was a crucial part of the Mission Operations Team which was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom for the safe return of the Apollo 13 astronauts. Of all his many accomplishments, Bernie’s greatest pride was his family.

A multi talented but modest man, those close to him often learned of his many accomplishments secondhand; strangers might not know of his crucial work on NASA’s Gemini Project and Apollo missions 1 through 17, his mathematical brilliance, or his many grateful students unless they entered his office and saw the flight stickers on his humble filing cabinet.

Bernie is survived by his partner Barbara Steen; his sister Joanne Kyrazis and her husband Demos; his daughters Becky Abel, Kathryn Bernhardt, Julie Clardy and husband Ben, and Laurie Fruge’; his cousins Donna Fowler, Barbara Shultz, and Marybeth, Brad, Travis, and Wyatt Porter and Louis E. Lentz III; his nephews Earl, Larry, and Roger Bolander (deceased) and niece Donna Cox; his grandchildren Emily and Lauren Rosnack, JoEllen, Joshua, and Caleb Lamb, Audrey Phillips and her husband Brandon, Elizabeth and Jack Bernhardt, and Benjamin and Andrew Clardy; great-grandchildren Mason and Scarlett Phillips, and numerous other friends and relatives.

Visitation will be Friday, February 18, 2022, at 12:00 pm at Forest Park Lawndale, at 6900 Lawndale St, Houston, TX 77023, with funeral directly to follow at 2:00 pm.
