George Wilburn Lawson Jr., born January 25, 1949 to Annie Mae Lawson and George Wilburn Lawson, joined Jesus December 29, 2010. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Bobby Gene Lawson and Lee Doyle (Pete) Lawson, and his son, George W. Lawson III (Trey). He was a wonderful father and is survived by his wife, Rita Kay Lawson; children Crystal Anne Westcott, Kimberly Renee Lawson, and Jeffrey Matthew Lawson; granddaughter, Alexis Jaye Westcott; brother Kenneth Wayne Lawson, many nieces and nephews, and his beloved dog Taz-man-do.
George retired from a loyal, long career with Union Pacific Railroad, starting at the age of 18, and holding many positions within the company, but primarily was a Carman. Some of his hobbies were fishing, dove hunting in the valley, golfing, baseball and football, cooking, gardening, the yearly return of the martin birds, being an all-around handy man, building things, and spending time with his family and friends.
He was a very proud father and frequently attended his children’s athletic events: Jeff’s baseball and football games, Kim’s cheerleading pep ralleys and games, Crystal’s high school swim meets and summer neighborhood swim meets (all kids), and Crystal and Kim’s middle school band concerts. He loved The Lord, and brought up his children going to Methodist church almost every Sunday.
George will be dearly missed, and his legacy will be carried on in our hearts. Visitation will be from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm Sunday, January 2, 2011 at Brookside Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 12:30 pm Monday, January 3, 2011 at Brookside Funeral Home with interment to follow in Brookside Memorial Park.
