On Monday, January 16, 2023, Geneva Marie Guillory Preston departed this earth and peacefully went to glory. Gene, the affectionate name she was referred to by most, was a devoted mother and faithfully united in marriage to Mr. Willie D. Preston, Sr. for forty-five years. Geneva was born February 16, 1950 in Lafayette, Louisiana to Leo Guillory, Sr. and Onezia Lavergne Guillory. She was raised in Eunice, Louisiana and grew up from a little girl.
She attended and graduated from the Charles Drew High School and then went on to attend Southern University before moving to Houston, Texas and becoming gainfully employed in downtown Houston by Robert Sakowitz.
She met and married Willie D. Preston, Sr. who was at the time the father of one son, Willie D. Preston Jr. “Gene” and Willie had one adorable son together who they named, Timothy. Later, she began working for the Securitas Protective Services where she worked faithfully until retirement.
She was kind and loving person. She loved her entire family. She loved good music and enjoyed hearing her husband sing at church.
She was proceeded in death by her parents; siblings, Eva Guillory, Hilton Guillory, Sr., Alice Gobert, Nelson Guillory, Pearl Reed, Vincent Guillory, Leo Guillory, Jr., Beatrice Guillory Jacobs and Nelda Guillory Landry.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories her loving husband Willie D. Preston, Sr., two sons, Timothy C. Preston and Willie D. Preston, Jr.; one granddaughter, Janna Preston; one grandson, three great-grandchildren; siblings, Eldridge Guillory, Sr., of Houston, Texas and Lionel M. Guillory of Germany and host sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The Viewing will be held at 10:00 AM and the Funeral Service at 11:00 on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at Yale Street Baptist Church, Houston, Texas. The Rt. Rev. T. Leon, Preston, II will officiate. Burial will follow at Brookside Cemetery under the direction of Garden Oaks Funeral Home.
