Frederick Fred Dee Berry III

Fred was born in Columbus, Ohio, but was primed early to be a Texan. He was #63 for the Hirschi Huskies High School football team in Wichita Falls, Texas, and as a freshman in college served as student football manager for the SMU Mustangs, where he was a proud member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. When he graduated from Trinity University, he moved to Houston, Texas, which became his lifelong home. There he began a career in the petroleum industry. In 1986 he met Tina Peters, his lifelong love, and soon afterwards they married.

Fred was a talented golfer, an avid hunter, and a wonderful cook. His annual crawfish boils, seasoned to spicy perfection, were legendary, and that recipe, typical of Fred, remains a mystery. A longtime Houston Astros and Dallas Cowboys fan, he was also a tireless champion of the Houston Rodeo, where he and his wife served on numerous committees for almost forty years. Like hunting season, Rodeo was one of Fred’s favorite times of the year.

He touched hundreds of lives and was a wonderful husband, brother, brother-in law, uncle, and friend. Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick Dee Berry, Jr. and Emma Mills “Mimi” Berry, of McQueeney, Texas. He is survived by his loving wife of twenty-nine years, Tina Peters Berry; sister Betsy Berry Graham and brother-in-law Don Graham, of Austin; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Anne and Bob Stone; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Tim and Janet Peters, and nephew and niece Austin and Alena Peters; and sister-in-law Mary Peters.

His family and close friends will celebrate his life in a private memorial.
