Her entire youth was spent in Ogden, Ark. after her family moved there when Jane was only 3 months old. In 1940, she spread her wings and flew when she began nursing school at Tri-State Hospital School of Nursing in Shreveport, La. and Charity Hospital School of Nursing in New Orleans, La., after which she received her certificate as a Registered Nurse in Sept., 1943. Her next step, as World War II was raging, was to enlist as an Ensign in the Navy Nurse Corps. Soon thereafter, however, Jane married her sweetheart, Edwin H. Hall, Jr. Although that ended her military service (since marriage rendered her ineligible for retention in the Navy), it resulted in a union that endured for 43 years. Jane was a devout believer and follower of our Lord Jesus Christ and worshipped and served Him through membership with Christian, Presbyterian, and Methodist churches. She was a wife, mother, homemaker, grandmother, caregiver, and good neighbor.
She continued her work as a nurse, volunteered time with Red Cross, continued her education and graduated with honors from Texas Women’s University with a Bachelor of Science degree, and spent 17 years volunteering and working with the Villa Maria Clinic in Houston, a residence, school, and clinic run by Catholic Charities for teenage unwed mothers, and, in her spare time, loved to travel.
Jane was preceded in death by her parents, Hulitt Troth and Frankie Troth Dixon, sister Sara Troth Goodwin, husband Edwin (Eddie) Hall, Jr., and beloved daughter Jan Marie Hall Peine. She is survived by her sons Michael (Mike) Hall and wife Donna, and Mark Hall and wife Susan, son-in-law Edward Peine, grandchildren Cathy Hall Gutman and husband Daniel, David Hall and wife Lindsey, Matthew Hall and wife Laura, Jennifer Hall Middleton and husband Richard, and Ryan Hall and wife Savannah, and great grandchildren Jordan Hall, Ashley Hall, Alexis Gutman, Noah Hall, Caitlyn Hall, Emily Jan Hall, Elliott Jane Middleton, and Anderson Mark Middleton, niece Denise Goodwin Woodall, and nephew Robert Carl Goodwin.
At Jane’s express wishes, a private graveside service for family only will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 9.
