Evelda Mary Guidry led a beautiful, faith-filled life graced by the love of her family and friends. She was born to John and Alvie Dejean on November 4, 1932 in Carencro, Louisiana, and is the eldest daughter of eight children. Evelda was blessed with seven children, and they were the center of her life. She and her husband Ogden Guidry raised their children in Lake Charles, Louisiana, where they were active members of the community and Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. The couple owned and operated Super Soul Café, where Evelda sold her famous hot links. People came from near and far to eat her food. She also worked approximately 10 years at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital and served as a volunteer for the Foster Grandparent program. Once her children became adults, she moved to Houston, Texas and she worked at Northeast Medical Hospital of Houston for 15 years, where she later retired. She then went on to become a crossing guard for six years in the Klein Independent School District. All of the children she crossed loved her dearly, and she loved them back. A strong believer in her Christian faith, Evelda taught her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren the importance of prayer and that a family that prays together, stays together. There was nothing more important to her than to see her family get along, love and respect one another. On Wednesday, January 2, 2013 God stretched out his loving arms to welcome one of his great servants on earth to become one of His precious angels in heaven. Evelda was preceded in death by her dear parents John and Alvie Dejean; her husband Ogden Guidry; her four brothers Freddie, Howard, Charles and Aldon; one sister Leona Chretien; two grandsons Jonathan Fontenot and Sean Brignac. She leaves to cherish her memory two dear sisters, Sophie DeJean and Julia Coleman; one son Clarence Patrick (Velma) Guillory; six daughters Melinda (John) Fontenot, Emelda (Earl) Brignac, Judy (Dennis) Turpeau, Barbara (Alton) Collins, Camelia (Maurice) Simon, Karen (Michael) Williams; fifteen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren; her godson Lash Chretien; her goddaughter Penny Coleman Gonzales and a host of nieces and nephews.
