Evalyn Belle Christian Phillips completed her journey on July 3, 2017 and left to be with her departed loved ones and her Heavenly Father. She is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Anne Phillips, who cared for her during a long battle with Parkinson’s and stroke complications. She is preceded in death by her parents, Robert Harris Christian and Ethel Tweedy Christian, son Charles Edward Phillips, III, daughter Carolyn Anne Phillips Swan, husband Charles Edward Phillips, Jr and many friends and family members. She is also survived by a granddaughter, grandson, and great grandchildren. She will be especially missed by her friends from the Lamar High School class of 1947. They were a special group from the Greatest Generation who recently had their 70th reunion at Molina’s Restaurant.
In addition to the many people who will miss her are former son-in-law Richard L. Swan, former daughter-in-law Susan Weeks, informally adopted family Susan Campbell Johnson and daughters Haley Johnson, Audrey McFarland, and son Eric Johnson, Jr.
After graduating from high school, she attended Sam Houston State University. She was an avid reader and a member of numerous Citizens Police Academy classes throughout the state of Texas and a fundraiser who helped supply bullet proof vests, drug dogs, and other necessary supplies for those agencies. Among that group was her friend Jeannie Canales of Houston, Texas. She is deeply missed. God bless everyone who loses a mother.
The family will receive friends Saturday, July 15, 2017 at 9:30 am at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home. Funeral Services will begin at 10:00 am with interment immediately following.
