Eugene Leal Cantu Jr.

Gene was born on August 12, 1945 in his family home in San Antonio, Tx to Eugenio and Maria Cantu. He graduated from Brackenridge High School and was a member of the marching band.

Gene served our country in the United States Army where he earned the National Defense Service Medal, Sharpshooter Badge and Good Conduct Medal. After the Army, he attended the University of Texas-San Antonio where he graduated with a degree in Accounting. For the past 25 plus years, he worked as the comptroller for School Tours of America and was still working up until his passing. Gene was a long time member of St. Bartholomew Catholic Church in Katy.

Gene is preceded in death by his parents, his in laws Domingo and Micaela Rodriguez, in law Jane Smith, his brothers Luciano and Crisobal, sisters Antonia and Esperanza, brother in law Jesse Morado and nephew Gary Gonzales.

He leaves behind his loving wife of 54 years Patricia Cantu of Katy, Tx; son Eugene Cantu III and wife Kate of Magnolia, TX; daughter Annette Smith and husband Chris of Katy, TX and numerous cousins, nephews, nieces, family and friends.

Gene was an honorable veteran, husband, father, brother, confidant and friend who loved classic cars, traveling, a good western movie and great food! He will be greatly missed by all who loved him.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 am Wednesday July 31st in the chapel at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home & Cemetery located at 13001 Katy Fwy Houston, TX 77079 followed by a graveside service with military honors.
