Gene received his undergraduate degree in Geology from Lamar Tech in Beaumont and his Master’s degree from the University of Illinois. He was working on his PhD at the University of Wisconsin when Humble Oil hired him and moved him to California. This is where he met his beloved wife Colleen.
Gene and Colleen married on July 3, 1964 and moved to Houston. They settled in the Sharpstown area where they raised their four children. Gene coached soccer when the kids were young, and he was very active in the Boy Scouts. He enjoyed camping and took the family on cross-country vacations every summer.
In 1990, Gene retired from Exxon Oil, after 32 years of service. Upon retirement, Gene picked up woodworking, a hobby in which he excelled. His children are all blessed with his handcrafted furniture that will last a lifetime.
Gene and Colleen enjoyed travelling together very much. Aside from road tripping across the US, they also visited Europe, South America, and Mexico.
Late in life, Gene was blessed with the gift of finding his birth family, who immediately welcomed him with open hearts. Meeting them meant the world to Gene and these relationships gave him a renewed purpose in life. Gene will be remembered as a very loving father, devoted husband and generous soul.
