Emily Gurka was born on December 1, 1930 in Chappell Hill, TX to the union of John Malinowski and Magdalena Krolczyk Malinowski. She entered into rest on Sunday, June 19, 2011. She will be remembered for the warm smile she had for everyone. Emily was a devoted member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church for all of her adult life. She never shied away from hard work and was an avid gardener who loved all of her plants, especially her begonias. Emily enjoyed her monthly casino trips to Coushatta Casino and was famous for her barbecue skills. She leaves to cherish fond memories, two daughters, Barbara Szymczak and husband Tommy of Anderson, TX and Vickey Gurka of Houston, TX; one son, Ken Gurka and wife Alyse of Cypress, TX; one sister, Fabieann Miller of Conroe, TX; four grandchildren, Gerard Szymczak, Eric Szymczak, Molly Gurka and Sophie Gurka and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She is reunited with her husband, Paul Gurka; parents and siblings, Alov Malinowski, Natalie Tafelski, Edwin Malinowski, Sarah Jankowski and Dominic Malinowski. The family will receive visitors on Tuesday, June 21, 2011 from 5:00-9:00 p.m. with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Pat H. Foley & Company. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, June 22, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 3600 Brinkman, Houston, TX 77018. A rite of committal will follow at Earthman Resthaven Cemetery. Honoring her as pallbearers are John Jankowski, Jr., Gerard Szymczak, Eric Szymczak, Joe Jungbauer, Michael Malinowski and Larry DeSantis. The family expresses with great appreciation the excellent care provided by Triumph Hospital The Heights and Grace Care Center of Cypress. Arrangements under the direction of Pat H.
