Elena Antonia Castro Ruiz, a beacon of light and unwavering faith, peacefully passed away on June 15, 2023, surrounded by the love of her devoted family. Elena was born on May 10, 1938 in Snook, TX to Ricardo and Consuela Castro. She was the proud wife and widow to Celso G. Ruiz.
Elena's life was a testament to the power of faith and the boundless love she held for her community and family. She was a dedicated and active member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church, where she found solace, strength, and purpose. Her unwavering devotion to her beliefs was an inspiration to those around her, as she lived her life guided by the principles of love, compassion, and service to others.
As a prominent member of the Asociación Guadalupana Arquidiócesis de Galveston-Houston, Elena found immense joy in celebrating her Mexican heritage and deepening her spiritual connection with La Virgen de Guadalupe. Her involvement with the association allowed her to make a positive impact on the lives of many through their various charitable and community activities.
Elena's family was her greatest source of pride and joy. As a loving wife, nurturing mother, and doting grandmother and great grandmother, she showered her loved ones with affection, support, and prayers. Her home was a sanctuary of compassion and warmth, where everyone felt welcomed and cherished.
Elena Antonia Castro Ruiz is survived by her beloved children, Judith Ruiz-Wagener and Michael Ruiz; grandchildren, Zena Ruiz, Elena Deats, and Javier Ruiz; great grandchildren, Sawyer Shaw, Brody Ruiz, Anastasia Deets, and Maria Elena Deets; her sisters, Maria Villarreal, Eulalia Ryholt, Dominga Castro, and Gloria Castro; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Her legacy of faith, love, and compassion will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who knew her.
The family invites all who wish to pay their respects and honor Elena's memory. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 5, 2023 at Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home, 12800 Westheimer Rd, Houston, TX 77077 from 5p to 8p with a rosary to be recited at 7p. A Mass to celebrate Elena’s life will be held on Thursday, July 6, 2023 at 12p at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, 6921 Chetwood Dr. Houston, TX 77081. Interment will follow at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery.
