Earl Walton Olson

Earl Walton Olson, 77 passed away at his home in Spring, Texas on Tuesday, April 4, 2017. Earl was born at home on the family farm near Elgin, Texas, on November 6, 1939, to Irene Anderson Olson and Philip Jonas Olson.

Earl completed his high school studies and attended the University of Texas where he majored in Engineering.

His studies served him well as he entered the workforce. His talents were recognized by his employer, AIG Corporation, where he was employed as an auditor. He retired in 1996 and built a comfortable home on Sam Rayburn Lake.

Earl enjoyed traveling, photography, woodworking, gardening, boating, reading, and spending time with his grandchildren. He and Judy took great pride in their garden and they were happy to share their scenic garden with friends and neighbors.

Earl served on the Home Owners Association board, was a partner with Judy, in “Gingerbread Trail” (a Christmas Shop) that he and Judy operated for six years. The joys of Christmas were always abundant and friendships formed that fill their treasure trove. The nativity was so very special (one year a young child learned the true meaning of Christmas while standing in the mist of the nativity (the tears of that moment ware indeed precious. When diagnosed with cancer, Judy and Earl had to close the business and prepare for the challenges ahead.

As a military man, Earl had served in the Army National Guard for several years, he was proud to be an American. He understood the value of his freedom, and he honored those who continue to fight for freedom today.

A child of God, he followed in his religious training. He and Judy attended the First Baptist church of Jasper, Texas.

Earl is survived by his wife, Judy, children, Lisa Lau and husband Michael, Ann Sinclair, Kristin Sinclair Rogers and husband David, and daughter-in-law Sylvia Sinclair. Grandchildren: Braden, Katelynn, Lindsey, Christian, Sara, Amanda, Marc, Ashley, Brianna, and three great grand children. His brothers Don Olson, Dale Olson and wife Peggy, Sister, June and husband Don Miles.

Earl was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Jimmy and Leslie, his infant son, his daughter, Melissa Sinclair, and son, Jerry Neal Sinclair Jr.

Bryan South, Pastor of First Baptist Church Jasper, Texas, will officiate. Woody Wade, Director of Music of First Baptist Church Jasper, Texas will be soloist.
