Dorothy Pyke Thompson of Houston, Texas, transitioned peacefully to reside in the presence of the Lord on August 24, 2021. She was born on September 14, 1935 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin as the only child of Cecil and Roberta Pyke.
Dorothy graduated from San Jacinto High School in 1953. She attended Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas and graduated in 1957. While at Southwestern, she was a member of Delta Zeta Sorority. After graduating and marrying Bill, she taught school briefly in Pasadena, Texas; Berwick, Louisiana, and Corpus Christi, Texas.
A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Dorothy is survived by her devoted husband of 64 years, Bill Thompson; daughter, Lynne Martin, husband Russell; and son, Ray Thompson, wife Jennifer. She had four grandchildren Jennifer “Martin” Frey, husband Ross, Meredith “Martin” Dick, husband, Jeff, Caroline Thompson, and Andrew Thompson. In addition, she had three great granddaughters, Lilly, Madison, and Emerson.
Dot’s passion in life was her family, to which she unselfishly devoted herself. She richly blessed her family with her constant love and support. She was active and supported United Methodist Church, Delta Zeta, PEO, Women and Children in Crisis, as well as Colonial Williamsburg Foundation.
The children would like to acknowledge and offer their sincerest gratitude to their father for providing exceptionally loving and attentive care for their mother. Additionally, the family thanks Fidelia Garcia, for her constant loving support during her long illness in addition to the staff of Memory Care and Skilled Nursing at The Buckingham and Vantage Hospice Care.
A private family service will be conducted by Dr. Wick Stuckey, at Chapelwood United Methodist Church on August 30, 2021, with a graveside to follow at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home and Cemetery. In lieu of customary remembrances and for those desiring, contributions in memory of Dot, can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or to a charity of their choice.
