On November 22, 1928,. A baby girl was born to Chatsey Lewis and Verna Dora, giving her the name Doris Dora, in Katy, Texas. Sis. Davis was baptized at an early age, at Antioch Baptist Church, in Katy, Texas, under the leadership of Rev. S. M. Jeffery. She attended school at Katy Elementary. Later, she moved to Houston and attended Phyllis Wheatley High School, where she graduated. She chose the nursing field as her profession, and retired from Harris County Hospital District after thirty-five years of service. Sis. Doris was married to Will Simon, Jr. and later to Rev. Samuel Davis, both preceded her in death. No children were born to either union. She joined Second Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. Later Christian Hope Baptist Church and The Mount Hebron Missionary Baptist Church. In 1974, she joined the Pisidia Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. R. R. Hartwell. After the demise of Pastor Hartwell, she continued to serve under Pastor Albert Walker, Jr. She served faithfully in Sunday School as a teacher, Mission II, Pastor’s Aide, Mass Choir, Mission Chorus and the Outreach Ministry until her health no longer permitted. She is preceded in death by her mother, father, two brothers, and two husbands. She leaves to cherish her memories, four step children; one-half sister, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, a beloved church family and friends.
