Don was born in Clermont, Indiana and raised in Indianapolis, Indiana. In 1950 he graduated from High School, the Korean War had started and he enlisted in the US Navy having to sign up for 8 years. He served 4 years active duty and 4 years Reserves. Upon returning to Indiana he attended Purdue University and majored in Mechanical Engineering. His career included Davis Welding, Studio of Flowers and Weso Equipment.
In 1963 he married the love of his life Janet and together they began 59 years of traveling, volunteering and entertaining many family and friends usually with Don’s wonderful cooking. Don was always willing to help anyone. He was an ordained Deacon at St. Philip Presbyterian Church and as a property manager he spent many hours of hands on repairing nearly everything in the church. He volunteered at Interface Ministries, The Women’s Home, Lord of the Streets, Friendship Force and others. Don was a very proud member of the Radio Control Club of Houston and spent many hours building and flying radio controlled airplanes. He also loved fishing and Indy racing.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dan Davis; brothers, Louis, John, Tom and Robert and sister, Jane. He is survived by his loving wife and many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service was held at 11:00 a.m. on January 14, 2023 at St. Philip Presbyterian Church, 4807 San Felipe St., Houston, TX 77056. Interment was in Houston National Cemetery.
