Diana Kim Nguyen

Diana Kim Nguyen (also known as Nguyen Kim Dinh in Vietnamese), 85 years old, of Houston, Texas, passed away on February 4, 2018. She was born on October 12, 1932 in Hai Duong, North Vietnam and was the youngest daughter of a family of 2 boys and 4 daughters. She is survived by her five daughters, three sons, 10 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Diana Kim Nguyen fled North Vietnam to South Vietnam in 1954. She was an Elementary School teacher. She later married Danny Huynh (Dang Khac Huynh) in 1955. Her husband was a Captain in the South Vietnamese Army who, in 1956 went to Paris, France, to study at the University of Sorbonne where he received a Law degree, and later became Director of the Vietnam Custom Department at the port of Saigon.

Our mother, Diana, was raised in a traditional aristocratic in Ha Noi, North Vietnam. After she got married and moved to Saigon, South Vietnam, she and our dad built a successful life and were able to raise eight kids in a very comfortable lifestyle, until the fall of Saigon in 1975. She then left everything behind to immigrate to the U.S. with her husband, sister and her 8 children and finally settled in Houston, Texas. Our mom and dad had to rebuild their lives all over again by working in various jobs to raise and support their family, so their children can continue to have the better life as best as we can. Despite the language barrier, our mom was able to raise her eight children to become successful adults, all due to her perseverance and strong work ethic. Faith was the most important thing in her life. She was raised Catholic and made sure all her children were raised with the same faith.

Once a beauty queen in her younger days, Diana has always been known throughout her life for her beauty and her classy style and still admired by many until this day. She prided herself for looking polished whenever she stepped out in public. Although she could not cook when she came to the U.S. (because she had several cooks back in Vietnam), she quickly learned the skill at first out of necessity, but over years she mastered her cooking skills to become a gourmet home cook, which her husband and children all enjoyed. Diana had the most exquisite taste in fashion, interior design, and culinary art. Even those who has met her only once remembered and admired her beauty and style. She passed on her internal and external beauty to all her beloved children in different ways. Some has her artistic creativity; some has her eloquent communication, some has her cooking skills, or her style, her strength, her wit, or her charm.

Our mother taught us a lot about Life and Love. She always supported and encouraged us to enjoy our life, always be wise and kind. Thank you, Mom. It is now your time to rest in peace in heaven and be with your siblings, parents and God. What you instill in us will live within us forever. Your legacy will live on within all of us, your children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

We will miss you, praise you and will remember you forever.
