Despina Galanos Denos, age 82, departed this life on January 11, 2023 in Houston, TX. She is now in the loving embrace of her husband George, of 56 years, and her parents Theodore and Marie Galanos.
Despina was born in Houston Texas on Sept 30th, 1940. She was a graduate of Bellaire High School. After raising her children she went to work in the oil and gas industry as a credit analyst. Her longest tenures were with Petco Fishing and Rental Tools and Weatherford Int. She loved to work and did so into her seventy’s. She loved to read, write and travel. She was especially interested in American history and also had a love for Queen Elizabeth and the Royal Monarchy. She traveled with her husband in her later years to California and the East Coast. Her favorite place on earth were the New England states. Especially Massachusetts and Cape Cod.
She was a person of great faith and was proud of her Greek heritage. She loved the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Houston and attended regularly. Her greatest joy was being a grandmother to Nicholas, Elizabeth, and William and great grandmother to Renee and Margaux. Her third great grandchild (Baby Russell) will be born in April. She loved the family dog Josie, who is she affectionately called “Missy.”
She is survived by her brother Peter T. Galanos (Donna) her adored children Maria Casten (Ted), George Denos, and Tommy Denos. Her precious grandchildren and great grandchildren Nicholas Casten (Samantha) Elizabeth Russell (Bradley), William Casten , and Renee and Margaux Casten and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Serving as pallbearers are Nicholas Casten, William Casten, Stephen Colovas, Alex Galanos, George Polydoros, Bradley Russell, and Jimmy Stamos.
A visitation for Despina will be held Thursday, January 19, 2023 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 3511 Yoakum Blvd, Houston, TX 77006. A funeral service will occur Thursday, January 19, 2023 at 10:00 AM, 3511 Yoakum Blvd, Houston, TX 77006. A graveside service will follow on Thursday, January 19, 2023 at 12:00 PM at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery, 12800 Westheimer Road, Houston, TX 77077.
Donations may be made in Despina's name to "AGOC Altar and Benevolent Fund" Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 3511 Yoakum Blvd., Houston, Texas 77006.
