Delores McAllister, beloved wife, mother, friend, and “Mimi”, of Sugar Land, TX, passed away at the age of 80 on Saturday, February 25, 2023, after a brave battle with Lewy Body Dementia. She was born on November 5, 1942, in Texas City to Lester Fred and Lena Faye Newbill. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband James Wayne McAllister whom she was married to for 38 yrs., in-laws James Clifton and Mary Lou McAllister and countless other loved ones.
She is survived by her sister Debra Slayton, son Jim McAllister and daughter Leigh Krenek; brother-in-law Don Slayton, daughter-in-law Amy McAllister; grandchildren Madison and Connor McAllister, Will and James Paul Krenek; nieces Pam Campbell and Donna Pullis.
Delores was born in Texas City and grew up in Houston where she met her husband James while attending Austin High School. They married and soon started their family life bringing Jimmy and Leigh into this world. Those early years established some lifelong friendships. However, in 1970 they moved to Sugar Land, TX to raise their family. The rest they say is history. For over 50 years, Delores impacted the Sugar Land community. Her active involvement in kids’ activities, leading community and service-based organizations and always keeping an open door to friends and family ensured she was on the “Mount Rushmore” of Sugar Land moms. She cherished friends and continuously nurtured those relationships. She spent several years as a realtor and sold Mary Kay! In her later years she loved being a grandmother. She flourished in this role! She was always in the stands cheering or in the audience shedding a tear. Mimi was her grandkids #1 fan. Last but certainly not least, was her love of Elvis! There are not enough words to describe her love for the King. Her fandom was well known throughout the country as she led her D&N fan club on years’ worth of trips to Memphis to honor the king!
