Deborah Shirley Martinez

Deborah Shirley Martinez, a registered nurse and loving mother, unexpectedly passed away on June 16, 2021 at the age of 61 while in the intensive care unit of Memorial Hermann-Katy.

Deborah continues on in the memories of those close to her: her husband Roger S. Martinez; her children Brendon M. Martinez, Roger W. Martinez, and Brittany S. Martinez; her siblings Kathy Mollins and Geoff Pike among many others who got to know her and love her.

Deborah was preceeded by her father Howard Pike and her mother Shirley Wellon.

Deborah was born in Canada on April 7th, 1960 in the province of Newfoundland to Shirley Wellon and Howard Pike. She graduated from Aberdeen School of Nursing (1991) and was recruited to work in Texas for several hospitals in the ICU, most notably St.Lukes Episcopal Hospital and Memorial Hermann- Memorial City. She then shifted her knowledge of care towards hospice and being there for those close to death. The next biggest chapter of her life involved her marriage to Roger S. Martinez on June 14, 1994. This was then followed by her greatest joys and pride: her children Brendon M. Martinez (November 3, 1994), Roger W. Martinez (September 16, 1996), and Brittany S. Martinez (September 10, 2002).

Deborah was a proud Canadian who was kind, caring, selfless, and most importantly a loving wife and mother. She would be the first person to give the shirt off her back to someone she just met. She enjoyed putting a smile on those around her through cracking jokes and laughing alongside her family and friends. She was an avid animal lover and had a soft spot for dogs. Her most recent dog being a German Shepard/Husky mix by the name of Korra. She was a respectable and inspirational nurse who not only cared for many patients but instilled in her first son the passion of a career in medicine. She could recite the entire movie San Andreas, a movie about a natural disaster in California starring Dwayne the Rock Johnson, to a tee. It was both hilarious and one of the quirkiest things about her. One of her favorite sayings was hakuna matata, from the Lion King, because she loved its message about being carefree and without worry. It was even her apart of her voicemail for a good amount of time. Christmas was her favorite time of the year and was followed by marathon…upon marathon…upon marathon…of Christmas Hallmark movies. The list of things about Deborah and the life she lived could go on and fill up the biggest library out there. Nonetheless, she was a light to those around her. She was filled with wisdom from her years and experiences in this world, and the emptiness she leaves will forever be a reminder of the ease at which she could both brighten up a room and your entire day.

The family of Deborah S. Martinez wishes to extend our thanks to the nurses and doctors of Memorial Hermann- Katy who so diligently worked, around the clock, to help her get better. As well as a big thank you to friends and family members who kept her in their prayers and reached out with words of kindness and action.
