Deborah Kathleen Landry

She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Gene, (Houston native) daughter, Jordan-Anne, and her husband Will of Georgetown; sister, Florence, and her husband Russell of Houston; sister Joyceanne and her husband Shelby of Nacogdoches, and a two year old granddaughter, Arianna. She was preceded in death by her mother Annis Laverne Tanksley and her sister Frances Annis Bayne.

Deborah was born in Madison, Indiana and moved to Houston when she was three years old. A Yankee at heart, Deborah loved all things fall and winter, especially the cooler weather that fall would bring. As a teenager, most every summer she returned to the pleasant climate of Madison, and the Ohio River Valley, to spend summers with her Grandmother. At her Grandmother's side, she learned how to cook, preparing wonderful meals from scratch. Deborah loved cooking and in her younger years, could be found in her kitchen, preparing gourmet meals. If you happened to be a guest at her Thanksgiving table, she would send you home with enough food to last 3 to 4 days.

After 20 years of marriage and the birth of her daughter Jordan-Anne, Deborah's love of children, placed her on a new and fulfilling path in life. She dedicated and donated her time, energy and attention to her Church. She attended many classes to become a religious education teacher for over 25 years. She taught six, seven, and eight year olds. Horizons had been expanded and her personality flourished as a take-charge teacher of young minds. Deborah loved her students as her own children and her students loved her. They always wanted to be in Mrs. Landry's class.

Her love of children was by extension a love of all people. She touched many lives in a very positive, uplifting fashion. She encouraged people, complimented people and brightened many days with her happy/optimistic personality and engaging smile. Even total strangers after a brief meeting would comment that Deborah was the nicest person.

She brought joy, laughter, and fun to the lives of her family, friends, and neighbors.

Deborah was a vibrant person with a warm, loving, outgoing personality.

She was a devoted, wonderful mother and grandmother. She will always be remembered in our prayers and kept in our hearts as an example of how to live our life and how to treat others with love, kindness, and respect.

Family will receive friends on Friday, November 23, 2018 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm with a rosary beginning at 6:00 pm in The Hunters Creek Chapel at Earthman Funeral Directors, 8303 Katy Freeway, Houston, Texas 77024. Funeral mass will be on Saturday, November 24, 2018 at 9:45 am at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 3601 Milam Street, Houston, Texas 77002. Graveside service will follow at 1:30 pm at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery, 6900 Lawndale Street, Houston, Texas 77023.

A letter to Deborah's 5th graders

“I wish you a life full of awareness of beauty around you.

I wish you a life full of gratitude for family and friends, for the goodness you find in others, for your health and all you are capable of.

I wish you a life full of acceptance of yourself and others without conditions and judging, knowing that differences and changes make life interesting.

I wish you happiness, the gifts of laughter and fun and the contentment of having an attitude that you can always control by your ability to look on the bright side.
