On May 20, 1952, Deborah Jean Edwards was born to loving parents, Franklin D. Anderson and Doris Jean Singleton Anderson. Deborah was the eldest of this union. She was raised in the Houston Heights during simple times, where every adult was your parent and everyone knew everyone. The Anderson’s lived on the west side of Durham and Copper Penny and Jack in the Box was food away from home. Deborah could throw a football farther and harder than the neighborhood boys, but Sunday morning she was as radiant as a sunflower. Deborah graduated from M.C. Williams High School in 1968. After which she attended Texas Southern University (TSU). She received an Associates degree from Houston Community College (HCC). She was also a graduate of Lockwood Barber College. She worked at Southwestern Bell as a telephone operator. Later she worked as a respiratory therapist for many years at Memorial Hermann Hospital until her health began to fail. Deborah was a devout movie buff. She could shuffle a deck of cards for a game of spades with the best. Her laugh was contagious when she was having a good time. She loved adventure. She traveled to New York to be on the David Letterman Show. She visited the Baltimore Estates in Ashville, NC and she loved artifacts from the Titanic. She had plans to visit the pyramids in Egypt before her health declined. Deborah was united in marriage to Sydney Paul Winn. From that union a son Jason Marcellus Winn was born. She later married William Jerald Edwards and a second son, John Franklin Edwards was born. The family then joined Greater Mt. Zion Baptist Church under the leadership of the late E. D. Carrington. Later, she attended True Honor Baptist Church, Clute, Texas under the leadership of her father, F. D. Anderson. She also attended the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, where she was a dedicated choir member. She later joined the Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, under the leadership of Pastor S. J. Gilbert. She loved her pastor and wife and worked diligently under their leadership. Deborah was preceded in death by her sisters Daryl Juanette Lott and Delores Jean Anderson. She leaves to cherish her memories; two sons Jason, John (Katrice); parents, Franklin and Doris; brother Caleb (Vanessa); granddaughter Sa’Marah Johnice Edwards and a host of relatives and friends.
