Deana Ray Person

Deana Ray Person passed away August 29, 2022 after an extended series of illnesses at Memorial Hermann Hospital. She was born on February 4, 1939 in Jacksonville, Texas to parents Ellen and Leonard Stockard. Deana graduated from Austin High in Austin, TX in 1957. She received a B.S. in Secondary Education from the University of Texas at Austin in 1961.

She married Amos Dwain Person on June 3, 1961 at Hyde Park Baptist Church, Austin, TX where they originally met. They relocated to Houston, TX where they celebrated 61 glorious years of marriage last June. In addition to her loving husband, she is survived by daughter Dawn Cherise Person, son Bradly Hunter Person, daughter Alyssa Yvette (Person) Lyle and husband Ronald Lyle. She is also survived by grandchildren Cory Lyle and wife Amy, Preston Lyle and wife Julianne, Jordan Lyle and Alexis Lyle and great-grandchildren Liam Lyle and Josephine Lyle. She is also survived by sister Jerry (Stockard) Ermis and husband Victor, Sister-in-Law Margie Stockard and brother-in-law Dan Person and wife Mary. She is survived as well by numerous beloved nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother Thomas Stockard and brother-in-law Dale Person.

Deana was a joyful Christian warrior as well as a natural born and educated teacher. She began her teaching career in 1961 as a high school teacher of biology and physical education. She also directed the drill team, as well as the high school cheerleading squad. After retiring from teaching in public education to start a family, she became increasingly involved in church activities including starting and directing the Women's International Program (WIN) at Willow Meadows Baptist church. Deana and her husband directed and taught many church sunday school classes of all ages over many years culminating with the JOY department, (Jesus, Others, Yourself); composed of mostly retired married couples.

After raising her three children, Deana rejoined the family business of A/W Mechanical Services; a commercial air-conditioning company. She took on the role of CFO, putting into place the policies, procedures and "checks and balances" that are in use to this day.

There will be a private family burial, followed by a Celebration of Life at Houston's First Baptist Church. The service will be held in the church chapel at 2:00 pm on September 17th 2022. A reception to follow, also at the church. The address is 7401 Katy Fwy, Houston, TX 77024.
